Admission guide

Admission and accommodation

For children and families admitted to Osaka City General Hospital for a catheter study or ablation: what we would like you to know before admission. The linked documents and websites are in Japanese.

Length of stay and staying with your child

Length of stay

Usually four days. In special cases it may be six days.

Staying with your child

  • Our hospital provides full nursing care, so families usually do not need to stay with the child.
  • If you wish, a mother may stay with the child.
  • Because mothers of other children are staying on the ward, fathers cannot stay with the child as a rule. Thank you for your understanding.

Private rooms

If a private room is available, a father may stay with the child there. Please note the following.

  • A private room costs about 7,000 to 9,000 yen per day.
  • Private rooms are given first to patients who need one for treatment, such as for leukemia, so very few are available on the pediatric ward.
  • You may be able to use one if it is free at admission, but they cannot be reserved in advance。

If your child has cold symptoms

Children with cold symptoms may not be able to be admitted. This applies even with only a runny nose or a mild cough and no fever.

Why admission may not be possible

Colds caused by certain viruses are not a big problem for healthy children, but they can be life-threatening for children on the ward with weakened immunity (such as those with leukemia).

If your child has a runny nose or a mild cough

  1. Before entering the ward, we test a nasal swab.
  2. If no problematic virus is found, your child is admitted as planned.
  3. If the test is positive, your child cannot be admitted, and the catheter study or ablation is postponed.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
