Pacing Clin Electrophysiol 2024 Catheter Ablation of Tachycardia Involving Twin/Single Atrioventricular Node in Patients With Right Isomerism.
Pacing Clin Electrophysiol. 2024;47(12):1660-1669. PMID: 39428712 · doi: 10.1111/pace.15091
Hearts with right isomerism (asplenia) may have two AV nodes, and tachycardia can involve both nodes or only one. We reviewed 16 patients (22 procedures) who underwent ablation at our hospital from 2006 to 2020 and classified the tachycardias into four patterns.
93.8%Tachycardia controlled (15 of 16 patients). Recurrence was 44%, and worsening of cardiac function was rare.

Cardiol Young 2024 Successful ablation of premature ventricular contractions originating from the posterior-superior process of the left ventricle approaching from the right atrium in a 13-year-old male.
Cardiol Young. 2024;34(6):1378-1380. PMID: 38646890 · doi: 10.1017/S104795112400088X
A case report of PVCs arising from a special site deep in the left ventricle, eliminated by ablation from the inferior wall of the right atrium without causing AV block. There are sporadic reports in adults, but this is the first report in a child.

HeartRhythm Case Rep 2022 A case of pediatric atrial fibrillation ablation resulting in unilateral pulmonary vein occlusion during long-term follow-up.
HeartRhythm Case Rep. 2022;8(3):222-226. PMID: 35492850 · doi: 10.1016/j.hrcr.2021.12.017
A 10-year-old boy with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation underwent isolation of the left pulmonary veins. The atrial fibrillation resolved, but he later developed blood-tinged sputum, and complete occlusion of the left pulmonary veins was found. Complications of pulmonary vein isolation for atrial fibrillation in children had not been reported. We suggest that drug therapy should come first in children, and that patients who undergo isolation need long-term follow-up at short intervals.

Heart Rhythm 2020 Catheter ablation in children and patients with congenital heart disease: Review of 1021 procedures at a high-volume single center in Japan.
Heart Rhythm. 2020;17(1):49-55. PMID: 31415819 · doi: 10.1016/j.hrthm.2019.08.013
A review of 1,021 ablation procedures (877 patients) in children and patients with congenital heart disease at our hospital from 2006 to 2018. WPW syndrome was the most common target (32.7%). The success rate was 93.5%, the recurrence rate 17.3%, and there were no deaths. Success rates were somewhat lower in small children and in patients with congenital heart disease.

Circ J 2014 Pacing Therapy in Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease Patients.
Circ J. 2014;78(12):2848-2850. PMID: 25366563 · doi: 10.1253/circj.CJ-14-1137
An editorial on the paper by Matsuhisa et al, which showed that long-term right ventricular pacing in children can cause heart failure and that moving the lead to the left ventricle improved cardiac function. With a case from our hospital, it discusses the choice of epicardial leads, common in children, and the importance of lead placement.

Heart Rhythm 2014 Radiofrequency catheter ablation of idiopathic left anterior fascicular ventricular tachycardia in children.
Heart Rhythm. 2014;11(11):1948-1956. PMID: 24954241 · doi: 10.1016/j.hrthm.2014.06.024
The first report of ablation in children for a rare ventricular tachycardia arising from the left anterior fascicle. Six of 537 pediatric ablation procedures were this type. Ablation succeeded in all of them, but recurrence was common and some needed more than one procedure.
An image from this paper was chosen for the cover of the issue of Heart Rhythm.Printed journals have almost disappeared now, but it made me very happy at the time.

Circ J 2014 Current trends in use of implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization therapy with a pacemaker or defibrillator in Japanese pediatric patients: results from a nationwide questionnaire survey.
Circ J. 2014;78(7):1710-1716. PMID: 24758765 · doi: 10.1253/circj.cj-13-1379
A nationwide survey of 152 ICD and CRT cases in children under 16 years of age. In children's hospitals, a standard DDD pacemaker was often used in place of a CRT device. Among ICD patients, 44% had appropriate shocks and 29% inappropriate shocks.

Heart Rhythm 2014 Differentiating fasciculoventricular pathway from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome by electrocardiography.
Heart Rhythm. 2014;11(4):686-690. PMID: 24252285 · doi: 10.1016/j.hrthm.2013.11.018
We performed an ATP test in 30 children diagnosed with WPW syndrome by school heart screening and showed that 76.7% had FVP, which carries almost no risk of sudden death. All Rosenbaum type A patterns were WPW syndrome, and most type B patterns were FVP.

Pediatr Cardiol Card Surg 2018 Left Ventricular Dyssynchrony and Dilated Cardiomyopathy in Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome
(in Japanese)
Pediatr Cardiol Card Surg. 2018;34(2):72-74. doi: 10.9794/jspccs.34.72
An editorial comment on the paper by Fujita et al on WPW syndrome in which ventricular dyssynchrony impairs cardiac function. With an infant case from our hospital, it discusses why dyssynchrony alone does not lead to dilated cardiomyopathy and other factors are likely involved.
